Stinson Beach, CA

This vacation home was meant for outdoor living, planted right on the shoreline of Stinson Beach, in the illustrious Seadrift neighborhood. We pulled off the striated and notched patterns found in the modern cladding of the exterior architecture in the design elements selected, including the planters and fire table and the orientation of the planters in the back that face the shoreline. Another challenge of the landscape requiring creativity and careful execution was planting atop a leach field; native, coastal planting with shallow roots were used, and to add height, three manzanitas were added in planter pots that could be moved as needed. In the adjacent yard two olive trees were also planted in larger, oversized pots. Outdoor entertainment areas include a hot tub, fire table, ping-pong area, bocce court, and heated seating with an ocean view. Materials were craftily selected to blend into the natural surrounding including the waterfront and sand dunes, and design elements were selected to mimic the lines and color palette of the architecture.
